Evening Sermon from March 16, 2008
Ever hear of the Paschal greeting? Well, I didn’t think so either,
until I read up on it and found that Instead of “hello” or some other
equivalent, one is to greet another person with “Christ is Risen!”.
The response is then “Truly He is Risen!” or “He Has Risen Indeed!”
Matthew 28 says
1: In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first
day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the
sepulchre.
2: And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the
Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from
the door, and sat upon it.
3: His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
4: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
5: And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I
know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
6: He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place
where the Lord lay.
7: And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the
dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye
see him: lo, I have told you.
8: And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great
joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
Note that they RAN to tell folks! They wanted to express the joy of
the fact that Jesus is risen! This coming Sunday, we will be
celebrating the resurrection of our Lord on Easter. But what I find
amazing is that sometimes we wait until Easter to actually celebrate.
Jesus rose 2000 (or so) years ago! This is an exciting fact, and I’m
thrilled about it - and should be everyday! If greeted by the phrase
“The Lord is risen”, the response “He is risen indeed!” shouldn’t be
looked at as simply a liturgical recitation - but an outpouring of
praise unto our heavenly Father. Jesus IS risen! That’s enough to
keep you dancing and joyful all day, all week, and all year. (more…)
In the book we are using in our Bible study on Wednesday night, Allen
Ferry talks about the importance of prayer. He says
” For a Christian, prayer is the starting point for influencing society.
If you want to see men saved, you will pray.
If you want freedom to preach Christ, you will pray.
If you want more preachers, you will pray!
If you want a better community, you will pray.
If you want a better lifestyle, you will pray.
If you want to improve our country, you will pray.”

Pastor Tom Vasel exhorts our congregation to be faithfully spreading God’s word.
Pastor Murrell Francis teaches the Word of God from the pulpit of Uijongbu Baptist Church
[29] But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
[30] And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
[31] And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
[32] And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
[33] But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
[34] And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
[35] And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
[36] Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
[37] And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him Go, and do thou likewise.
Well, this letter is getting out late! Can I use the excuse that Laura went with several of the women to a retreat this weekend, so I’m watching the kids alone?
No?
But you know, it’s always exhausting yet quite enjoyable to take care of the kids by myself. They have no mom to run to, so they’re forced to cuddle with me. How awful! I tell you, there’s nothing like waking up in the morning to see a little baby just smiling and cooing at you. This reminded me of an email that I received from a pastor I know, which mentioned ten lies that parents tell themselves.
