Evening Sermon from March 16, 2008
In the book we are using in our Bible study on Wednesday night, Allen
Ferry talks about the importance of prayer. He says
” For a Christian, prayer is the starting point for influencing society.
If you want to see men saved, you will pray.
If you want freedom to preach Christ, you will pray.
If you want more preachers, you will pray!
If you want a better community, you will pray.
If you want a better lifestyle, you will pray.
If you want to improve our country, you will pray.”

[29] But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
[30] And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
[31] And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
[32] And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
[33] But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
[34] And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
[35] And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
[36] Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
[37] And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him Go, and do thou likewise.
Well, this letter is getting out late! Can I use the excuse that Laura went with several of the women to a retreat this weekend, so I’m watching the kids alone?
No?
But you know, it’s always exhausting yet quite enjoyable to take care of the kids by myself. They have no mom to run to, so they’re forced to cuddle with me. How awful! I tell you, there’s nothing like waking up in the morning to see a little baby just smiling and cooing at you. This reminded me of an email that I received from a pastor I know, which mentioned ten lies that parents tell themselves.
Sermon Audio from February 24, 2008. Pastor Vasel spoke in the morning from 1 Corinthians 6 and Sam Healey spoke in the evening.

We certainly want our children to learn how to get past “da da” and “ma ma”, and earn to use a great variety of words. Of course, this can get ridiculous, as we learn to speak and utter pretentious words that almost no one knows what they mean, just to look important. But knowing what a word means is important. I want to increase my vocabulary, and I want to learn more and more. But even in my quest for more knowledge, I found this story striking.

Colossians 3:15-17 says
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
And we’re doing that this Sunday! Come on out at 9 AM to practice with the choir for the next five weeks, so that we can sing with our hearts to the Lord on Easter Sunday. I often have people tell me that they can’t sing (apparently most of the church and population of the world is afflicted with this). But honestly, we just want people to come and do their best for the Lord. This isn’t American Idol - we aren’t doing this to get fame or glory - we’re doing this to honor God. So I hope to see you then! Prayer time on Sunday morning will be moved to 9:40, about the time we end choir practice. (more…)
Isaiah 55:1-2 says
Ho, everyone that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness.
